A Tucson Christmas
December 21-27, 2025
Most years we disappear into the desert between Christmas and New Years, camping far off the beaten path to escape the holiday hustle and bustle. This year we decided to run toward the commotion instead of away from it. It all started last October, when Tom and Ann suggested visiting us in Silver City on their way to Tucson. And we counter offered to meet them in Tucson and visit our friend Susan at the same time. Then Jamie jumped on the bandwagon and booked a flight from Seattle, and suddenly we had a very full dance card.
At the "Amshak" in Deming.
As usual, we headed straight for the club car, to enjoy adult beverages and a flame red sunset.
Brunch at the Blue Willow with the Tucson hams: Al, Doug, Dennis and Chuck. When the axe falls, these are the guys who will wire the world back together.
Rattlesnake Trail
As usual, I got us hopelessly lost in the bosque.
But the payoff was finding flowing water amd a bit of lingering fall color in the creek.
Dinner with Tom and Ann
"I'm a little teapot".
The Urban Assault Trail
I saw this on a map and had to go check it out. The trail runs for four miles from Skyline to River, passing through two tunnels.
But once in the wash, it's very difficult to get out. The walls are 20-30- feet high, and every house is backed by a convincing wall or fence.
The Mud Tent
The mud tent in 2005, and in 2025. The yellow paint has faded, but look at those cacti! I planted the saguaro in 2002.
Phoneline Loop
Ussie with Jame and Susan in Sabino Canyon.
Sabino Creek near the dam.
View from the Phoneline Trail of fairy dusters and Sabino Canyon.
Wildhorse Tank
Boxing Day hike with Jeff, Julia, Patty, Robin and friends.
Last swim on the year.
Farewell to Tucson. We sure had a good time!
