Gillard Hot Springs

April 10-11, 2010

This wasn't supposed to be wildflower-hunting expedition. Instead, it was a return trip to Gillard Hot Springs, one of my favorite natural areas, and a site I hadn't seen in five years. However, once we turned north toward Safford, we found rivers of wildflowers on either side of Route 191. As we climbed into the high country north of Safford, those rivers turned into cascades of wildflowers tumbling down the bare basalt slopes of the Black Hills.
