Sonoran Desert Museum

April 21, 2016

The Sonoran Desert Museum is a great place to take out-of-town guests to introduce them to the desert, and it was first on our list when Marcel and Christiane, old friends from Montreal, came to Tucson for two weeks at the end of March.

A benefit of spending the whole day there was two editions of the Raptor Free Flight Show, including this magnificent Ferruginous Hawk
Great Horned Owl
Harris's Hawk
Cactus wrens, Arizona's state bird, serenaded us everywhere we went with their low-pitched raspy chants.
A curve-billed thrasher eyeballs our afternoon snack. Nope, nothing to see here!
Marcel moves in for the money shot at the hummingbird aviary.
Anna's Hummingbird
Probably just your standard buckhorn cholla, but with gorgeous blood red flowers.
Dennis practices his listening skills at the underground exhibit.
