Wasson Peak

November 18, 2007

We introduced our kids — well, they're young enough to be our kids — to hiking with a Sunday afternoon stroll to Wasson Peak.

We're partial to the loop trail that ascends King Canyon and returns via Hugh Norris and Sendero Esperanza, for a total distance of about eight miles with an elevation gain of 1800 feet.

This is a relatively easy hike in cool weather, but there's been precious little of that this fall. Tucson is breaking records with temperatures in the mid-80s.

Nicki said was determined to go "all the way" — Pete's heart was pounding!

My favorite part of the trail is this ledge just below Amole Peak. From here it's an easy jaunt to the summit.

Fortunately Pete and Nicki are still speaking to us. We topped off the day with a cold beer at the Barrio Brewery (our new favorite).

The best wildlife siting of the day was this very large bright green Bird Grasshopper
